Nearly three weeks after the implementation of “Hong Kong Motors Northward”, some automobile dealer groups announced the addition of charging networks in the Mainland and the cooperation of after-sales support services, striving to seize every opportunity. Among them, many new and second-hand MPV and SUV cars have also benefited from the active trading of “Hong Kong Motors North”. However, the public is not fully aware of some details, including whether the “Shanghai” vehicles can leave the country? What should I do if I encounter a traffic accident in the Mainland? This time, we will continue to invite experts to give you some advice.
Regardless of self-driving travel in the north or business trips between China and Hong Kong, 7-seat MPVs and SUVs are equally suitable. The market demand for these two types of vehicles has recently increased significantly. For example, the new fourth-generation Toyota Alphard and Vellfire debuted in Hong Kong earlier this month, and the new generation Nissan X-Trail e-Power hybrid 7-seat four-wheel drive SUV is just in time. DCH recognized second-hand cars and said that recently a variety of second-hand MPV models have also attracted keen attention from customers who plan to “Hong Kong Motors Northward”. DCH has set up a 4K interactive zone in its Kowloon Bay showroom a few months ago, which is convenient for potential buyers to find suitable vehicles through high-definition large screens. In addition, full insurance (calculated by 60% NCB) will be provided for the car during the promotion period.
Charging and after-sales support
Jinlong Automobile Group announced earlier that it will integrate the charging network of different brand distribution points in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including medium-speed and fast charging points in locations in southern China such as Macau, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqing, etc., to provide charging support for the European and Korean car series represented by the group. Owners of Audi, Volkswagen, and Kia electric vehicles in Hong Kong can charge directly at the designated locations of the Group in mainland China. The chargers are European standard and do not need additional adapters. In addition, the 4S service centers of Jinlong’s eight brands including Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen, Kia, Mercedes and Aston Martin also provide repair, maintenance, towing, car rental and 24-hour support services. The group simultaneously added auto insurance business, and the car insurance of new car customers in Hong Kong can cover the “compulsory traffic insurance” part, which is convenient for self-driving in the north.
Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong also announced that from now on, Hong Kong and Macau-registered Mercedes-Benz private cars (except V-Class and EQV) that meet the conditions of “Hong Kong car northbound” and “Macao car northbound” can enjoy a two-year unlimited mileage warranty service in Guangdong Province from the date of first registration, which is convenient for Hong Kong and Macau residents to travel to the mainland by self-driving. However, the services launched by Mercedes-Benz only focus on vehicle maintenance and repair, and there is no arrangement for charging electric vehicles for the time being.
Recently, many people have been concerned about the issue that Hong Kong private cars borrowed from banks cannot be driven overseas. Zhang Jianqiang, Managing Director of Ping An Insurance (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. of China, explained that from the standpoint of insurance companies, there is no restriction on the use of Hong Kong vehicles purchased in the form of loans to drive overseas. He suggested that car owners check with their banks and financial institutions to understand the content and terms of the agreement signed by the two parties. Since the insurance products provided for “Hong Kong Motor North Shanghai” focus on “compulsory traffic insurance” and third-party liability insurance, the protection for “body” damage is indeed insufficient. If the agreement itself defines that the vehicle is collateral, its value will be directly affected in case of an accident. “In fact, the car insurance currently purchased by car owners is to protect the accidents that happen to the car in Hong Kong, and does not involve the overseas parts. “Ping An Insurance (Hong Kong)” will soon launch a new product to completely plug the loopholes. Perhaps, banks and financial institutions will also require the owners of the cars belonging to the “Shanghai” to buy enough car insurance for the car before they are allowed to drive outside the country.”
How to deal with a crash in the Mainland?
The mainland’s legal system and support are different from those of Hong Kong. How should one deal with a traffic accident while driving northward? Zhang Jianqiang pointed out that the general practice in Hong Kong is to call the police for help. In the mainland, apart from notifying the police, the insurance company that has purchased the insurance must be notified immediately. Since the public security and customs departments in the Mainland have already obtained the information on the Beishang Port train in advance, the traffic police allowed the staff of the insurance company to be present to assist in the handling. It is known that some Ping An insurance customers will be issued a dedicated telephone number after applying for the insurance, so that they can call for help in case of a traffic accident in Beishang. Zhang said that the mainland adopts a simple mechanism. The traffic police can make an on-the-spot ruling on the responsibilities of both car owners in the accident. If all parties agree, they will enter the claim settlement process. Owners have the right to refuse acceptance and then appeal through the court process. Zhang Jianqiang pointed out that Hong Kong insurance companies have the responsibility to bring out the similarities and differences in the legal system and handling procedures of China and Hong Kong, and appealed to car owners not to judge by Hong Kong standards, because Hong Kong people may affect NCB (no claim discount), private settlement without informing the insurance company. When purchasing Beishang auto insurance, the car owner also needs to know what packages and supports the insurance company can provide.
