Opening the beer garden: A cheers

Outdoor dining is permitted again from Monday – with strict rules. Not everyone is happy, some also shy away from the risk and do not open at all this year.

The ice saints are over, now summer can come. You are prepared in the Goldene Gans beer garden at the lock below the Alte Mainbrcke in Wrzburg. “The distance between the tables from backrest to backrest must be at least 1.50 meters,” reports operations manager Heiko Fleischmann of the conditions that will apply from Monday for all operators of outdoor catering in Bavaria be valid. “The service staff always have to wear masks, the guests only when entering and leaving the beer garden and when going to the toilet,” he says. “There can be a maximum of two houses at each table, even without a gap. In order to track infection chains, we have to record the names and telephone numbers of the guests and the time of their stay,” he says of the rules of the state government.

Two times 80 centimeters, together makes 1.60 meters. It fits. Operations manager Heiko Fleischmann from the beer garden of the Golden Goose at the lock measures the distance at which guests can sit opposite each other from Monday.

The tanks of the home brewery are full of fresh maypole. Open every day from Monday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For now, no outside catering is allowed to remain open for the time being. Whoever wants to get a place has to hurry up. The beer garden, which is particularly popular with families due to its wide range of games, has 400 seats during non-Corona times. “If we can get 150 places now, we’re good,” says Fleischmann.

Innkeeper Reinhard Henke is also preparing for the opening on Monday in the Hofbrukeller in Zellerau. “We move every other table down into the beer garden and are then four meters apart between the tables,” he reports. As a result, he can keep his offer of around 400 seats including games. Open every Monday from 10 a.m. “But we definitely recommend making reservations in advance,” says the owner of the Hofbrukeller.

“The ratio of expenditure to income does not pay off with the late start of this year.”

In the magic garden on Veitshchheimer Strae you also get ready. “We want to offer the best possible protection with the best possible hospitality, a balancing act that we now have to work on for a few more days, “says boss Andreas Eder. That is why the magic garden only opens on Thursday at 3 p.m. Eder asks for to reserve via Facebook or email at
[email protected].

The b.neumann beer garden next to the residence opens on Monday: “We open every day from 11.30 a.m.”, says Chef Klemens Hlzel. However, there is initially no self-service. Because b.neumann is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, the friends of the barley juice can look forward to: “In May and June each beer costs five euros for us,” says Hlzel.

At the Schtzenhof: fewer seats but the playground is open

The Schtzenhof also opens again. “From 11 a.m.,” says boss Gudrun Berndt. There will be around 120 seats due to the further table distance. “But our playground is also open,” she says.

The Zollstock also rules in the b.neumann at the Residenz. The distance and hygiene rules must be followed exactly, says boss Klemens Hölzel. On the left, restaurant manager Christina Ausserlechner.

Almost “next door” at the Nikolaushof, the voice from the answering machine says that you can currently only be sporadically reached on the phone. That’s true. But a look at the homepage clears up. Every Monday from 11 a.m. there will be a “Nikolaushof light” in the outdoor area.

“The boss has sewn masks for children and adults”

The beer gardens of the Postkutscherl in the Waldkugelweg and the Time Out in Frankfurter Strae have also reopened on Monday. “We will open our newly renovated beer garden from 4 p.m.,” Biggi Seufert, head of the coach, said on the phone. The time out opens its beer garden even at 12 noon, confirms boss Katja Menna. The beer garden at Zollhaus on Mergentheimer Strae also opens. “From 11 a.m.,” says Tanya Todorova. The boss has sewn masks for children and adults, which can be bought at cost price.

The friends of the brewery Gasthof Alter Kranen am Mainkai also get their money’s worth again. It opens from Monday at 12 p.m. in good weather. The Dornheim beer garden on the Talavera has the same opening times from Monday, seven days a week, says Patrick Hansel on the phone.

Friends of the city beach, on the other hand, have to wait for the coming year. “The ratio of expenditure to income does not pay off with the late start of this year. If we start with the construction now, we will only be able to open in four weeks, and who knows what will be again,” says beach manager Jochen Wrtheim. He now hopes for the coming year and a relaxation of the rules. “If you can only let in half of it, you have to figure it out,” he says.

Stadtstrand and Caf Vue will not open this year

The Caf Vue at Felix-Freudenberger-Platz will not be there this year either. “Too risky” says co-owner Andreas Lang on the phone and refers to an Instagram entry. There it says “The strict conditions do not make normal operation possible, the slimmed-down version would not cover all costs. We would like to be there for you in the next few years.” The Caf Vue with its containers, like the city beach, has to be dismantled in winter for flood protection reasons, which causes additional costs.

The Meegrtle opens with a maximum of 60 to 80 seats instead of the usual 260

The district will also start again on Monday. The Meegrtle in Veitshchheim, for example, is open from 4 to 8 p.m. On weekends and public holidays, it is even open from 12 noon. Operator Wolfgang Plinske is happy that he can now open again, but with a maximum of 60 to 80 instead of the usual 260 seats, he can be happy when the black zero is at the end, he says. As a restaurateur, he is also responsible for complying with the distance rules. “If guests violate this, it can cost the landlord 5,000 euros,” said Plinske.

He therefore hopes that his guests will be sensible and threatens to be kicked out immediately if he does not comply. The landlord also got annoyed about the state government. The enforcement conditions did not come to him until 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening. “Getting disinfectants and protective masks on the empty market is almost impossible within two working days,” said Plinske.

The bridge baron in Bolzhausen will open its doors on Thursday next to Father’s Day. From there it will be open again from Thursday to Sunday until 8:00 p.m., but only roughly half of the original 240 seats will then be available at a sufficient distance. Therefore, reservations can now be made in the bridge baron.

The Waldhaus Einsiedel is very similar. Operation begins there one day earlier. As of next Wednesday, it will be open seven days a week. 60 beer tent sets are set up in the self-service beer garden in the Gramschatz forest between Rimpar and Gramschatz with sufficient distance. A reservation also makes sense here, according to the operator.
