opening (or not) of markets, the situation in Dijon

On the eighth day of confinement, to contain the coronavirus pandemic, the government made new decisions. Among them, the closure of all markets, except derogation. Concretely, markets are prohibited, but mayors may, on a case-by-case basis, ask the prefects to keep some of them.

Two closed markets in Dijon

In Dijon, two markets are no longer allowed to open, from Tuesday March 24, 2020. These are the Fontaine d’Ouche and Port du Canal markets. Why ? “The inhabitants have grocery stores in the immediate vicinity and can thus stock up on supplies”, indicates the town hall in a press release.

Les Halles remain open

On the other hand, Les Halles de Dijon, in the city center, remains open. According to the town hall, the population, “does not have, within an acceptable radius, enough food stores in view of the density of inhabitants “. A maintenance accompanied by a change in the organization of the market: one will be able to enter it only by the north entrance – Rue Bannelier – and to leave it by the south entrance – Rue Claude Ramey. The municipality specifies that security agents will be present “to enforce the instructions and barrier gestures”.

The suspended Grésilles market?

The next Grésilles market should take place on Thursday, March 26, 2020 in the morning. An opening which will have a sort of test value. “For now, it remains open, indicates the town hall.
