Opel has a car for 15-year-olds. Thanks to the price, it could be a hit

Maybe the time is coming back when carmakers will start offering purely small cars. It would be logical in the era of electromobility – a smaller car needs a smaller and lighter battery than large cars.

So far, only Renault Twizy is offered in the category of electric minicars and there is little interest in it. “So far, not a dozen of them have been sold in our country,” confirms Renault spokeswoman Jitka Skaličková.

It may be a slightly higher price (CZK 349,000) and probably also the fact that it is basically open from the side. Perhaps his problem may also be the fact that his performance of 17 horsepower does not allow driving from the age of fifteen.

But it is these young drivers that could be addressed by the Opel Rocks. So far, the German brand intends to offer it only on its domestic market, but it will be decided whether customers will be able to buy Rocks elsewhere as well.

You can see it (even with competitors) in our photo gallery.

“We will see in the spring, sales in Germany will certainly be the basis for decision-making,” said Martin Hejral, a spokesman for Opel’s domestic representation, for Autonaelektřinu.cz. A little earlier, according to Citroën spokeswoman Lenka Martinová, it could be clarified whether we will see the start of sales of the Ami model at Citroën’s domestic showrooms.

Speed only 45 kilometers per hour

This is the prototype of the smallest Opel. Citroën Ami first introduced itself last year. The length of this car is 242 centimeters, the width is only 139 centimeters.

Both Citroën and Opel are powered by an eight-horsepower electric motor, which is enough to give a maximum speed of 45 kilometers per hour. Thanks to these performance parameters, however, it can also be managed by schoolchildren from the age of fifteen.

The weight does not exceed half a ton, which is why a battery with a capacity of only 5.5 kWh is sufficient as an energy source. Thanks to it, it will cover 75 kilometers on a single charge in WLTP mode.

Charging is only possible from a standard 230Volt socket. Charging to full takes only 3 hours.

And best of all: Citroën Ami (outside the Czech Republic) is sold at prices starting at 6,000 euros, or approximately CZK 153,000. This is approximately CZK 50,000 lower than the current prices of internal combustion cars for “teen brands Aixam, Ligier, Microcar and others”.
