New York – A man was buried in his car by a snow clearing vehicle in the USA and was only rescued after ten hours. The 58-year-old had driven to the side of the road because of a snow storm in Owego, New York, landed in a ditch and was buried there by the snow plow, the police said on Friday (local time). “If he’d been in there an hour longer, his body temperature would have continued to drop, and I’m sure he wouldn’t have made it,” said Jason Cawley, cop, who eventually rescued the man.

The heating didn’t work

In the 58-year-old’s car, during the dramatic hour from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning, neither the heating nor anything else worked. Because of the poor network coverage, he only came through very briefly on the emergency call, where his location could then be determined. But first aiders had to search a five-kilometer-long and completely snow-covered section of the road. Police officer Cawley climbed almost to the roof of the car without noticing it. The driver was taken to hospital with frostbite and severely hypothermic.
