Only a fraction of the corona aid paid to companies

Dresden. German companies have received less corona aid than politicians had provided. This emerges from a report by the Dresden branch of the Ifo Institute. “Only a fraction of the budgeted aid was paid out to the companies affected by the corona pandemic,” said Selina Schulze Spüntrup, scientist in the Dresden branch of the Ifo Institute. That also has to do with the fact that “some of the eligibility requirements were formulated quite strictly in order to rule out abuse. In addition, when the funds were made available, it was not clear how many companies would actually use the help ”.

In order to mitigate the financial consequences of the corona crisis for the companies affected, the federal and state governments had launched various aid programs. The federal government has provided 150 billion euros in grant programs. Around 24 percent of this has so far been accessed. For emergency aid from the federal government, 50 billion euros were estimated, of which less than a third was used.

In the case of the subsequent bridging aid, the volume of the disbursed funds is also well below the budgeted sums: for bridging aid I it is 5.6 percent, for bridging aid II at least 10.4 percent and for bridging aid III it is currently 28.18 percent. About 56 percent of the available funds were disbursed from November aid, and around 33 percent from December aid. Loans from the KfW special program, which are available in unlimited amounts, have so far been approved with a total volume of around 46 billion euros. (tb)
