only 25% faster than the previous flagship

The first independent reviews of the GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card will be published this coming Monday, September 14. However, test results are already leaking on the Web. This time resource VideoCardz has published new, allegedly verified GeForce RTX 3080 benchmark results in synthetic benchmarks and games.

The source focused on synthetic tests in this leak, but also presented two games that demonstrate completely different results. The new GeForce RTX 3080 was compared with the previous flagship GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, its predecessor the GeForce RTX 2080 Super, as well as younger video cards – GeForce RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2060 Super. All these accelerators were tested with the same driver – the new GeForce 456.16.

In all synthetic 3DMark tests, the situation is generally the same and the results are more or less unambiguous. So the flagship GeForce RTX 2080 Ti lags behind the new GeForce RTX 3080 by 20-27%. The average difference with the GeForce RTX 2080 Super is 40%, and the junior GeForce RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2060 Super video cards show 45 and 50% of the performance of the new product.

But in games, a more interesting and not so unambiguous picture is observed. So, in Shadow of the Tomb Raider at maximum graphics settings in resolutions of 1440p and 2160p, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti video card lags behind GeForce RTX 3080 by an amount from 18 to 25%. Moreover, a smaller gap is observed when using ray tracing and DLSS anti-aliasing.

At the same time, in FarCry New Dawn, also at maximum graphics settings (there are no traces and DLSS here), the difference between the GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 2080 Ti was only 2 to 19%. The smallest difference is observed in the lower Full HD resolution, and this is true when compared with all video cards. Now it remains to wait for the test results in other games to understand how big the difference between generations is on average.
