Total lunar eclipse

The phenomenon of a total lunar eclipse or super blood moon called the Geophysical Meteorology Climatology Agency (BMKG) will occur tonight, Wednesday (26/5/2021).

According to the BMKG, several regions in Indonesia are certain to witness this phenomenon which is expected to occur again in 2033.

“The super blood moon phenomenon occurs because the position of the sun-earth-moon is aligned. This places the moon in the umbra of the earth, causing the peak of the total eclipse,” wrote the BMKG’s statement on its official website, Wednesday (26/5/2021).

Then according to BMKG, the time span between phases of the total lunar eclipse phenomenon in each region in Indonesia until it reaches the perfect point varies.

In addition, BMKG also reminded people in coastal areas to be aware of the potential for tidal flooding related to the total lunar eclipse or the super blood moon.

“The total lunar eclipse that will occur is known as the super blood moon. At that time, the moon will be visible red with a relatively larger size than the normal full moon phase,” said the Head of BBMKG Region I Medan Hartanto.
