Online gambling malfunction now solved | Financial

Since Friday evening, online gambling has not been possible. It took the service all night and part of the morning to fix the outage.

It took so long because it had to be found out exactly where the technical problem was, says a spokesperson. “We have been working with man and power.”

Launch postponed

Since Friday it should be possible again to gamble legally online in the Netherlands. But due to the outage, Holland Casino had to postpone the launch of its digital gambling games. Now that the malfunction has been resolved, it is not possible for all digital gambling games to be used immediately, a spokesperson said. It takes some time to start up.

The malfunction was in the so-called Cruks system. Gambling companies such as Holland Casino and Nederlandse Loterij, known for example from the Staatsloterij and Lotto, have to send customer details there to register them for an online game. According to the Gaming Authority, the cause of the malfunction was of a technical nature, and not a cyber attack.

The Cruks outage has no consequences for arcades and Holland Casino’s casinos. According to the supervisor, these may start the Cruks check on Monday. The Gaming Authority recently issued licenses to a total of ten different online providers, including Holland Casino. The companies must comply with strict rules to prevent gambling addiction.

€800 million

It is estimated that approximately 1.5 million people are active with gambling via the internet in the Netherlands. These include poker, roulette, blackjack, slot machines and sports betting. That market has an estimated value of approximately €800 million.

In the podcast Generation T, four young Telegraaf journalists talk about their experiences with online gambling.
