OnePlus is going to fix OnePlus 8 ‘black crush’ issues via software update – Tablets and phones – News

Oneplus really makes a mess of it in the field of communication. This actually started with the Oneplus 7T where the vegetable hue was dismissed as ‘property of an AMOLED display’.

Now with the 8 Pro, other things are constantly being communicated. The green hue was suddenly a software issue, while the black crush was seen as a hardware defect. In addition, quite a few users suffer from extremely long image retention and even burn-in with devices of 1 day old. The normal Oneplus 8 looks better, but there too some users have vague display problems.

All these super AMOLED panels are also purchased from Samsung. The Samsung S20 Ultra has the same panel and also shows a green tint. A fix has also been rolled out for this, but the problems have not yet been resolved for many users.

What is it about? That is unfortunately guessing. These OLED panels have some difficulty with low backgrounds with gray backgrounds, or the gray uniformity. A part of the pixels in the screen reacts differently to the relatively low voltage at low brightness, so that a part shows a different color than it actually should (green instead of gray). But unfortunately I do not know the fine about this, I am not a hardware expert in this area.

You can brush this away somewhat by calibrating the screens properly. Many Android manufacturers only calibrate their screens at high brightness, and these Samsung AMOLED panels have a very high peak brightness. It is therefore all the more important to also calibrate on low and medium brightness, such as Apple does with their products. You will therefore probably encounter less bad gray uniformity and black crush at Apple.

However, the high degree of retention and burn-in is a matter of concern in the hardware field, so it could also be that something is wrong in the production process of Samsung, which means that the quality of the screens varies enormously. There are users who do have good gray uniformity. On the other hand, here on the forum there are also users who have already made 3 to 4 returns and have been given a jerk display each time.

The bottom line is that Oneplus is starting to claim the top prize for their devices, while the rest of the company seems to be a bit behind. Asking the full blow and showing off an A + display means that your QA department must also be very strict. In addition, you have to endlessly optimize the calibration process so that you can deliver consistent quality. Finally, their media statements are really all over the place, they shout something without doing research. This can sometimes be expensive .. not only in terms of smartphone returns, but especially in terms of reputation.

Above all, I hope that everyone with an expensive Oneplus 8 Pro will soon receive a sustainable solution.
