One in three residents of the United States must stay at home to stem the spread of the coronavirus. On Sunday, the states of Ohio, Louisiana, and Delaware also instructed their residents not to take to the streets, with some 101 million Americans now facing restrictions.
The cities of millions of Philadelphia and Dallas will also be added to the list on Sunday. The states of New York, California, Illinois, Connecticut and New Jersey had previously closed shops and cafes, calling on residents not to leave home.
Across the United States, more than 32,000 people have been registered who carry the coronavirus. 414 people died from the effects of COVID-19. New York State is most affected with more than 15,000 confirmed infections, including 9,600 in New York City itself. 114 deaths have occurred in the state from the effects of the virus.
Biggest crisis since Great Depression
“This will be the biggest domestic crisis since The Great Depression,” said New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, referring to the 1930s crisis, the greatest economic depression of the twentieth century.
US President Donald Trump uses the national guard to help the worst-hit states, he announced on Sunday. The reservists will help set up emergency hospitals in New York, California and the state of Washington, among others.
Meanwhile, the US Senate is discussing a large-scale financial aid package involving $ 1.8 trillion ($ 1.7 trillion). Several Democrats voted against because the package would focus too much on business and not on health care workers. Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer says there will be an agreement within 24 hours.

The coronavirus in short
