One in three freelancers saw their turnover drop by more than 25%

Since the start of the health crisis, one in three independent (32%) has seen its turnover fall by more than 25%, according to a new barometer of “Financial Serenity” from the life insurer NN, published on Wednesday. In total, half of the self-employed have observed a drop in their turnover.

According to the barometer, 1 in 6 independents (17%) indicate that they are experiencing financial difficulties. This is mainly due to a decrease in turnover. For half of the independents, turnover has fallen since the start of the coronavirus crisis, and for 32% it has fallen by more than 25%. Self-employed workers who have not completed higher education are particularly affected. Among them, 42% indicated that their activity decreased by more than 25%.

At the time of the survey in March, nearly a third of self-employed workers (28%) said they depended on current coronavirus measures for the survival of their business. 13% of them say that there is a risk that their business or company will go bankrupt in 2021. However, 32% of the self-employed indicate that they are not facing financial difficulties because of the crisis.
