Sepsis, or sepsis, a very serious infection with organ failure, is associated with one in five deaths worldwide, twice as many as previously believed. The medical scientific journal The Lancet analyzed medical records from 195 countries, while only a few western countries have been under surveillance so far. Hence a surprising increase in figures.

This disease, recognized as a major public health problem in May 2017 by the WHO, kills 11 million people a year, more than cancer. While most cases are found in the poorest regions of the planet, all countries are affected by sepsis.
