Vulnerable families
This date is marked on the calendar of a hundred families in Vigo due to the risk it entails for them. And is that when the launches are resumed, these people in a situation of special vulnerability could lose their homes. “These are people who already live only from the Risga or from a pension and who do not have any other alternative of habitability”, shells Carla Leiras, a member of the collective the nobodys, who worries about the refusal in second postponements. “In many of these cases, when you are referred to Social Services, the eviction is paralyzed for a month, but then what. We have once again requested this suspension and all of them have been denied to us ”, laments Leiras.
Reconduct program
In order to help these families, the Ministry of Social Policy launched the program Drive back, consisting of their advice, debt restructuring and search for housing alternatives for vulnerable people at risk of losing their usual home. Throughout this year, its professionals have attended 293 people throughout the community, of which around 70 are from the Vigo municipality. The vast majority –271– access this program due to non-payment of rental income, while only 22 are due to not meeting the monthly mortgage payments.
Alternatives
Once they join this program, they explain from the Xunta, they are always given a solution, be it the restructuring your debt, dation in payment of your home (mortgage cases), processing of the rental voucher O housing solution. On this point, for Leiras, one of the main problems faced by the community is the inexistence of a social rental housing stock. “This resource would be essential for families; it is a demand for which we have been fighting for years ”, he justifies.
Notification and Garnishment Service
Precisely the proximity of this end of the moratorium, for which less than a month remains, is already generating more work in the Common Service of Notifications and Garnishments, located in the Casco Vello. The lawyer of the Administration of Justice of these dependencies, Fernando Varela, It advances that they already begin to have the first indications for the month of September, since August is non-working for this type of procedure. “Right now we have about 5 releases for September; not yet a high load; we hope that as we get closer to August, around mid-July, we will start with all the postponed and with the new ones who enter ”, Varela remarks.
Suspended more than half
Specifically, since the beginning of the pandemic, this service has been forced to suspend more than half of those who have entered. In these cases, the Social Services, given the difficult situation of the person or family who is going to be left without a home, lor communicates in a report to the judge, which proceeds to temporarily stop the launch waiting for the professionals to try to process financial aid such as the Risga or the minimum living wage or look for a housing alternative, or even a family one, for those affected.
