One 57 in New York: Michael Dell owns the most expensive apartment in NYC

For years, the buyer of New York’s most expensive apartment has been guessing a lot – now the secret is out. It is the 62-year-old billionaire Michael Dell, founder of the computer manufacturer Dell, as the “Wall Street Journal” reported on Thursday, citing insiders.

The apartment with six bedrooms and six bathrooms was sold in 2014 for 100.47 million dollars (today’s value: 81.5 million euros). It is the highest price to date that has ever been paid for a residential property in the US east coast metropolis.

Dell’s apartment is located in “One57”, a 90-story skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, the geographically central part of the Manhattan borough. The glass tower designed by the French architect Christian de Portzamparc is one of the most visible buildings in the skyline of this zone.

The “One57” offers gigantic views like from a helicopter of Central Park, the skyscraper landscape of Manhattan as well as the Hudson River and East River.

However, Dell’s rank as the owner of the most expensive apartment in New York could soon expire. According to the “Wall Street Journal”, the sales of a penthouse apartment in a construction project near the “One57” are expected to break the previous record.
