Recent studies have proven the effect of human papillomavirus (HPV) on the development of cervical cancer, writes Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

However, HPV, which includes more than 200 types of viruses, does not always cause cancer. About it told Chief Oncologist of the Ministry of Health of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrei Kaprin.

Among the most dangerous types of HPV, the doctor named – 16, 18, 31, 33. The average risk is represented by types 30, 35, 39, 45, 52, 53, 56, 58, low – 6, 11, 40, 42-44, 61.

The peculiarity of HPV is that it can be infected again – including after treatment. Therefore, experts recommend a vaccine against viruses. According to WHO, the HPV vaccine has fully proven its effectiveness in many countries of the world.

“In Russia, the HPV vaccine is not yet included in the national vaccination calendar and is carried out at the request of the patient (or with the consent of the mother). We have registered a 4-valent vaccine against 6, 11, 16, 18 oncogenic types,” the chief oncologist of the Ministry of Health noted .
