On Tuesday the pilot plan to reopen restaurants in Medellin begins with 10 establishments

“The situation has been complex because we are no longer working at 10 percent, but at 70 percent. We’re doing pretty well, but we’re not 100 percent working yet, “said Wilson Monterrosa, a restaurant employee.

They have enlisted some biosafety protocols such as disinfection points, the ‘Medellín takes care of me’ application, temperature taking, distance between tables, rugs and menu requests through the platform.

“With the quarantine, in the business we are almost parallel to the problem that the owners of the liquor stores have, because the part we have been working on is domiciles and that is a minimum,” said Federico Vásquez, manager of a restaurant.

William Olaya, another manager of one of these establishments, said: “We have the part of all the cleaning, rugs at the entrance, we take temperatures, we are separating the tables and we go with everything and with masks, we are going to implement the system with the ID card ”.

They are waiting for the endorsement of the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, to start as soon as possible. Unemployment in these businesses is at 40 percent. Only 10 businesses in the city will make art of the pilot plan.

“Within these restaurants what we are doing is establishing a small gastronomic area where all the restaurants work according to these protocols, others a pastry shop, a cafe, a bakery,” explained Juan Manuel Barrientos, director of the Cielo restaurant.

Some restaurants have closed entirely and others are providing home delivery. The idea in this pilot reopening plan is that they include the areas of El Poblado, Laureles and downtown Medellín and that it be for Tuesday.
