Olivia Rodrigo Kicks off Guts Tour with Exclusive Setlist of Original Songs

The highly anticipated opening night of Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts Tour took place on Friday night in Palm Springs, marking the beginning of a six-month journey across the United States and Europe. Fans who have been eagerly awaiting the tour now have a glimpse into what they can expect as Rodrigo takes the stage with a setlist comprised entirely of her own original songs.

Unlike her previous tour, Rodrigo has decided to forgo any covers this time around. All 22 songs in the setlist are from her two albums, “Sour” and “Guts.” This includes the exclusive bonus track, “Obsessed,” which was only available in certain editions of the latter album. For fans who are truly obsessed with Rodrigo and her music, this addition to the setlist is a special treat.

One notable change from her previous tour is the absence of the No Doubt cover, “I’m Just a Girl.” While it was a staple in many of her 2022 concerts, Rodrigo has chosen to focus solely on her original material this time. With enough songs to fill a 95-minute set, Rodrigo played all 12 songs from the standard edition of “Guts,” along with nine out of the 11 songs from “Sour.” The only omissions were “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back” and the somber closing track, “Hope Ur OK.”

Another noticeable difference in this tour is the inclusion of eight dancers. They added an extra layer of visual appeal to the performances, showcasing choreography that was captured from overhead camera views. However, they would occasionally disappear from the stage during more intimate or hard-rocking numbers, allowing Rodrigo to shine on her own.

While the production of the tour is not overly elaborate, Rodrigo’s charisma serves as its own special effect. One standout setpiece was a quarter-moon prop that Rodrigo sat on and sang from as it circled the arena during two numbers, “Logical” and “Enough for You.” This added a touch of visual spectacle to the show.

At the end of the 95-minute performance, Rodrigo was in high spirits. She climbed down from one of the ramps that extended into the general admission area, making physical contact with fans who had gathered around. It was a moment of connection and appreciation for her dedicated fanbase.

The opening night of the Guts Tour has already generated significant buzz, with speculation about the setlist dominating social media discussions. Fans were eager to see what songs would be included in the lineup, further solidifying the tour’s status as one of the hottest tickets of 2024.

Rodrigo chose to open the tour in her native Southern California, where she will also conclude the tour. The Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs served as the venue for Friday night’s show. This relatively new facility, which opened just 14 months ago, is still a novelty for many California concertgoers who had not yet made the trip to the desert region. The tour will circle back and conclude with four shows at the Kia Forum from August 14-17.

Chappell Roan had the honor of being the opening act for Rodrigo’s tour, and she will continue to join her on all tour dates until April 2. After that, the Breeders will take over for a few dates, followed by Remi Wolf and PinkPantheress.
