Olcay herself had an abusive father as a child and she notices that she and her sisters suffer from this to this day. “All the stress from the outside made that violence more intense. If there were again insecurities or my father had lost his job, he would drink and use more and the aggression increased. (…) I feel that we all have flaws here and there, that really do descend from our youth “, she says. “For example, we all have trouble entering into deeper relationships.”

“I think it’s an unfair start for a lot of kids,” she continues. “You blame yourself as a kid. I always thought I did something wrong that made Dad so angry with my mom. You think so.”
Some time ago, Olcay made a series about domestic violence and found that too few people know how to report domestic violence. “There is so much shame. I am still ashamed about what happened while I was the victim. It really has to go.”
