SURABAYA, KOMPAS.com – Toll Officer Surabaya-Gresik was surprised by a pedicab driver who approached him.

In a video with a duration of about 60 seconds, a man is seen pedaling a rickshaw carrying two passengers.

The rickshaw puller seemed so relaxed approaching the officer who was waiting for him at the Surabaya-Gresik toll gate.

When he arrived at the toll booth, the toll gate officer immediately reprimanded him because he had crossed the toll road.

Public Relations of PT Margabumi Matraraya (MBMR) Andjar Hari Sutoto confirmed the incidence of pedicabs entering the toll road.

“Yes, that’s right, that happened yesterday, Mas. We have been prosecuted, we provide directions and record the identity of the person concerned,” said Andjar, when confirmed. Kompas.com, Saturday (15/5/2021).

Andjar said the rickshaw puller entered from an open lane in the Surabaya-Gresik toll road area.

The pedicab entered from Dupak (KM 0 + 000) to the Tandes Timur 1 Toll Gate (KM 2 + 900) on Friday (14/5/2021) at 11.15 WIB.

“It should be noted that the Dupak-Tandes segment uses an open system, where there is no Dupak Toll Gate, so that drivers unwittingly have brought their becak onto the toll road,” he said.

In the video circulating, Andjar emphasized that the pedicab driver was at the exit gate of the Tandes Timur 1 Toll, to be precise at KM 2 + 900.

At that time, toll officers immediately provided education to pedicab drivers if the toll road was not for 3 or 2-wheeled vehicles.

His party hopes that similar incidents will not happen again.

In addition to violating existing regulations, 2 or 3 wheeled riders also endanger their own safety.

“We have given sanctions, we record the identity of our KTP, then we warn and we educate them not to repeat them again,” he said.

Andjar admitted that there was no special sanction other than reprimands and identity registration. Bearing in mind, there is no criminal offense in that matter.

“Because there is no authority to impose sanctions. If there is a (criminal element), we will continue it to the related party (police),” he said.
