Offensive increases. Fesap announces strike for January 31

The Federation of Public Administration Unions (UGT) announced this afternoon a national strike for the last day of the month against the proposed 2020 Budget, which it sees as “offensive and unacceptable” in view of the expected salary increases of 0, 3%.

The date of the strike coincides with the day of the national demonstration marked by the Common Front (CGTP) and the teachers strike called by the National Teachers Federation (Fenprof).

“Fesap rejects the idea that the 2020 State Budget proposal is closed before the global final vote to take place on February 6 and will substantiate workers’ demands for fighting actions that include, among others, the strike of the day. January 31, ”says the statement distributed to journalists.

José Abraão, Fesap leader who made the announcement of the strike in Lisbon, made sure that “this will be a big strike [com] all public administration workers ”.

“Provocation to workers”

Meeting on Tuesday, Fesap’s general assembly concluded that the government’s proposal for a 0.3% pay increase “is offensive and unacceptable and ends up provoking workers,” José Abraão said in remarks to reporters.

Fesap first presented the government with a proposal for a salary increase of 3.5% by 2020, but during negotiations it lowered the bar to 2.9%, remaining so far “without any response” from the executive, the unionist said. .On 19 December the Common Front approved a national demonstration in Lisbon on 31 January to demand a salary increase of 90 euros for all workers. On January 10 it was Fenprof’s turn to call a national strike of educators and teachers for the same day.

According to José Abraão, Fesap, a structure linked to the UGT, is available to continue negotiations with the Ministry of State Modernization and Public Administration, led by Alexandra Leitão.

According to the Fesap leader, the negotiation process has so far been a “make believe” and therefore requires a “serious negotiation” with the Government: “There are so many problems that cannot continue to be postponed and the strike of The 31st is a wake-up call to the Government – and Parliament – that by February 6 [dia da votação final global do OE2020] solve or create conditions for problems to be solved. ”

José Abraão assured that Fesap “will not stop demanding, fighting”, even after the approval of the State Budget2020, to provide answers to state workers.

In addition to salary increases “for all workers”, the union structure claims “the correction of distortions of the Single Remuneration Table”, changes to the Performance Evaluation System (SIADAP), the extension of ADSE to new beneficiaries, among other matters.
