Offenbach: Nadira Victoria Friedrich (15) wants to be among the national leaders in rowing

Nadira Victoria Friedrich from Offenbach has one goal: the German national rowing team.

Offenbach – She is only 15 years old, but in the midst of this crisis, she already mentions a specific goal at a very high level. “I want to achieve a lot at the federal level and qualify for the German national rowing team. I really want to have this federal eagle on my chest, ”reports Undine athlete Nadira Victoria Friedrich combative and full of conviction. “I love this sport, I will do anything for it,” she adds.

Jochen Weber shares this confidence. “If she continues like this, it can work. For them, the national squad is in the junior area. It would also be nice for rowing in Offenbach if she could do it, ”says the experienced RG Undine trainer.

He reports on three major strengths of his athlete, who came from the Mühlheimer Ruderverein in August 2019: “She follows my instructions exactly, notices the feedback from the boat. It then retains these technical improvements. It can also go to its limits and, for example, overcome this inner bastard in the final sprint. And it stays tuned as now – without competitions in mind. She has the discipline you need to achieve big goals. ”

The student from the ninth grade of the Offenbach Leibniz School describes herself as a “straightforward type. When I have a goal in mind, I tackle it with concentration, motivation and fun and try to achieve it. ”She also refers to the appropriate daily routine. “I come home from school, eat something, go to training and do my homework in the evening. I have little time to learn, and in a short time I have to concentrate on trying to learn or improve a lot. ”

Friedrich first started rowing at SG Wiking, then moved to Mühlheim. The route from Rumpenheim was closer. “I came to SG Wiking through the school and club project. I was in the discovery phase, thought to myself, I enjoy that, I want to continue. Like the SG Wiking, Mühlheim was a great rowing club, I learned a lot in terms of sport, I met a lot of people. But only the Undine trains in this intensive workload that I imagine. That is the next step, ”she reports.

She is currently training with Weber on the Main five to seven times a week. Their focus is on the one – regardless of the association specifications in the corona pandemic. Thanks to the help of her parents, she even has two of her own boats. Her vita already includes several Hessian championship titles over 500 and 1000 meters. Last year she dominated in the U17. And then came the big crisis in March: video units at home instead of practical exercises on the Main. “But I also liked the video units, which motivated me. And the yoga class was also great, you don’t have that in everyday life. Something like that broadens the horizon, ”says Friedrich. “So I had fun, I definitely didn’t let my head hang,” she assures.

But now she is happy to practice on the Main again. Weber is currently having her compete against the stronger boys in his club. Friedrich has to defend her small lead, which he gives her, over 2000 meters to the finish. “She can show what she’s capable of – and she does,” the coach reports with satisfaction.
