Slight increase in unemployment figures in May

The number of citizens registered as unemployed in the Odenwald district rose only slightly by two people to 2,429 in May. Compared to the same month last year, however, 419 more people are registered as unemployed. Looking at the two areas of law separately, there was an increase of 19 to 1,634 people compared to the previous month in the responsibility of the municipal job center (SGB II). Unemployment in the area of ​​responsibility of the Erbach employment agency, on the other hand, has fallen, with 17 fewer people registered than in April.

The number of unemployed over 50 fell by 14 to 741. The greatest increase was among unemployed fellow citizens without a German passport. The number of people reported increased by 22 from 1,119. The number of young adults between the ages of 15 and 24 who were registered as unemployed also increased: Here it was 19 more than in the previous month (a total of 304). The smallest increase was recorded among women registered as unemployed (by eight to 1,189).

Significant increase in benefit communities compared to the previous year

The municipal job center looked after 2,493 benefit communities in May, 63 fewer than in April. The number of people in communities of need fell by 127 to 5,540 compared to the previous month. Compared to the same month last year, however, a clear increase of 751 is visible.

Last month, 632 vacancies were reported in the Odenwald district, which means a decrease of 10.5 percent compared to April and an increase of 24.2 percent compared to the previous year. The reported jobs are distributed among the first three areas with 223 in raw material extraction, production, manufacturing, followed by transport, logistics, protection and safety with 101 and health, social affairs, teaching and education with 100 jobs.

With an unemployment rate of 4.7 percent, the Odenwald district is still below the Hessian rate of 5.1 percent. In the southern Hessian comparison, it is behind the Bergstraße with a rate of 4.3 percent. This is followed by the districts of Darmstadt-Dieburg and Offenbach, each with 4.6 percent. The district of Groß-Gerau brings up the rear with 5.6 percent.
