Haaland does not really get going against Bayern – and yet he has two top chances. Then he has to get out. Apparently the BVB striker was harmed by the referee.
Thanks to a stroke of genius by Joshua Kimmich shortly before the break, Bayern wins the top game against Dortmund 1-0 and probably also the championship. Bitter for BVB: Referee Tobias Stieler also holds his shares in the Bayern triumph.
In the 59th minute, Jérôme Boateng deflected a dangerous shot from Haaland with his elbow. Hardly anyone could have complained had the referee decided on a penalty. Nevertheless, it can hardly be said of a wrong decision. Boateng throws himself into the shot and is hit from a short distance on the arm not far from the body. It’s a classic “you can give, you don’t have to” situation. The waves are also high on social media, but opinions differ widely. Logical.
Referee puts Haaland out of action
Ten minutes later, Stieler brakes BVB again. In the center circle there is a serious collision with Haaland. The referee inadvertently stands on the goalgetter who had approached from behind. Shortly thereafter, the storm tank limps out of the field. Not because Haaland is walking on hands, but because, as his compatriot Jan Aage Fjörtoft reports, he twisted his knee during the campaign.
Haaland had acted haplessly up to this point – but it still posed the greatest danger. Who knows, maybe he could have provided BVB moments of happiness in the last 20 minutes. Maybe not. Only this much is clear: his failure did not play into BVB’s cards.
It is not clear at the moment how the young Norwegian is doing. An official diagnosis is still pending. He watched the final minutes of the game against Bayern standing in the cabin aisle.
If BVB had to do without Haaland in the end of the season, this could be fatal. BVB not only lost the championship title on Tuesday, it is also coming under pressure in the battle for the Champions League spots. Dortmund is still four points ahead of fifth-placed Bayer Leverkusen, which also suffered a painful defeat. But without Haaland, BVB would have a real striker problem.
