Oculus abandons its low-cost Oculus Go VR headset

Oculus retires its “low-cost” VR headset – Geeko

Marketed at a price of $ 199 when it comes out, l Eye Go was the entry-level VR headset from the subsidiary’s
Facebook. Despite its attractive price, the Oculus Go has had mixed success, selling just over two million copies.

Its price however made it much more accessible than other autonomous reality headsets (not requiring the use of a smartphone). Criticized by the press, the accessory had a bad reputation from its release because of the low resolution of its screen first of all (1280 × 1440), far from current standards, but also because the accessory, not compatible with computers Windows, did not run games that required solid resources. Only the apps listed on the Oculus Store were accessible to users.

Repositioning

Braded since January, the accessory will still be supported for a time by Oculus – until 2022 for updates, and at the end of 2020 for apps.

Oculus now intends to focus its efforts on the Oculus Quest, its other stand-alone consumer model, which nevertheless displays the much higher price of $ 399.
