Having received special attention from left-back Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS). Saudi Arabia national team Yasser Al Shahrani underwent successful surgery after sustaining injury in defeat against Argentina at World Cup 2022Tuesday (11/22).
Quoted by Al Arabiya, Al Shahrani underwent successful pancreatic gland surgery at a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday (11/23).
Surgery was required after Al Shahrani suffered a terrible collision with goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais during Saudi Arabia’s 2-1 win against Argentina.
Al Shahrani suffered a serious injury after being hit by Al Owais in a fight for the ball with Argentine Nahuel Molina. Al Shahrani’s face was hit by Al Owais’ knee. The collision left Al Shahrani with a broken jaw, facial fractures and internal bleeding.
The 30-year-old left-back was then taken to Hamad Medical City Hospital in Qatar for a checkup. Prince MbS then reportedly ordered a private jet to be sent to pick up Al Shahrani in Qatar.
Al Shahrani was then flown to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to undergo surgery at the National Guard Hospital.
In a video revealed by the Football Federation of Saudi Arabia (SAFF), Al Shahrani appears to be in better shape after his horrific crash against Saudi Arabia in Argentina.
“I want to make sure that, God willing, I’m fine. May Allah give you health too, thank you for your prayers for me. Congratulations to the Saudi Arabian team and the fans, you deserve this victory. May Allah make things easier for you on future,” Al Shahrani said.
Saudi Arabia temporarily leads Group C of the 2022 World Cup with three points, one point ahead of Poland and Mexico. Next, Saudi Arabia will take on Poland on Sunday (27/11) in the morning WIB.
