NYC Transit tweets that banks have eliminated to contain the homeless

New York City Transit created a social media headset on Saturday when it deleted a malicious tweet announcing that the agency would remove subway benches “so the homeless don’t sleep in them.”

The flap began Friday morning when a Twitter user with the identifier @ Des4gr8ness, who only uses “Jeremy” as his display name, posted a photo of an empty platform at 23rd Street station: “Damn, banks – budgeting so much? ” That’s crazy @MTA. “

The official subway news @NYCTSubway replied: Hi Hi Jeremiah. The benches were removed from the stations, not allowing the homeless to sleep on them. ^ JP »

In the end, the initials look like the person who wrote the reply to the tweet.

The post circulated thousands of times, receiving hundreds of comments until Saturday morning, when critics told the agency to replace the damn benches in typical colorful New York language.

The official NYC Subway Twitter account commented that the benches were removed to contain the homeless population. They then immediately deleted his tweet.

One of the kindest responses said: Hello, NYCT Subway. No one’s compassion for other people should depend on the weather or the victims of the disease, but this choice at such a time is especially sickening. You are not only denying the humanity of the homeless, but you are also hurting disabled patrons. “

Another said. “We have put them in an awkward position, we have made the station more inaccessible to pregnant women, the disabled and the elderly, but they must understand that we will allow ourselves to cause more suffering to the homeless.”

The original poster, @ Des4gr8ness, made his account in a private scandal, NY On Saturday afternoon, the response from NYC Transit was deleted.

But that didn’t stop New Yorkers from having more shadow over the agency.

Each of the metro’s official tweets published on Saturday continued to receive comments about the banks.

“The subway is not a substitute for nursing home, homeless New Yorkers deserve much better care,” said spokeswoman Abby Collins. “We have worked with the city on this important issue; we have called for more urgently needed medical and mental health resources to address the homeless epidemic. “

It is not the first time that MTAES has removed banks to immobilize the homeless. Last year was took the same step at West 4th Street Station,
