NYC Launches Platform for Reporting Double Parking and Blocked Lanes

NEW YORK — The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) has launched a new web platform where New Yorkers can report problem areas where double-parking and parking lanes Bike and bus lockdowns occur frequently due to vehicle loading and unloading.

This new platform allows users to place a pin on a map to identify problem areas, as well as add comments.

As of March 2023, NYC DOT has installed more than 2,000 charging zones as of December 24, 2021 and will add at least 500 new charging zones per year in 2023 and 2024 on a rolling basis.

“We want New Yorkers to help us identify double-parking and blocked bike and bus lanes throughout our city,” said city DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodríguez in a statement. “Our new web platform will allow New Yorkers to join the conversation about where problems exist and where we can build new charging zones across the five boroughs.”

The platform will not only potentially result in additional loading zones, but will also reduce hazardous road conditions.

“Double parking and blocked bike and bus lanes slow down our city and create hazards for our pedestrians and cyclists, but by strategically using real-time consumer feedback and data, we can create greater efficiency in loading zones. and improve security,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. saying.

New York City Councilwoman Amanda Farías shared the same sentiment.

“Double-parking is a chronic problem throughout our city, and it’s one of the biggest quality-of-life issues my district faces every day. Not only is double-parking your car illegal, but it also puts others in danger when neighbors cannot cross traffic safely, congestion is added to our streets, intersections and bike paths are blocked, and emergency vehicles cannot attend on time,” Farías said in a statement.
