NY Announces $234 Million in Additional Food Assistance for June – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK — All New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for the month of June. So It was announced by Governor Kathy Hochul on Friday.

All participating SNAP households – including those already at the highest level of benefits – will receive a supplemental allotment this month. Those households that have reached the benefit maximum ($835 for a household of four) will receive a supplemental payment of at least $95.

SNAP plays a very important role in New York society, since according to a recent study, 14% of the population of New York’s population depended on its benefits last year. In addition, SNAP is a huge factor in the state’s economic recovery from the pandemic and has pumped more than $1 billion into the state’s economy since January.

“Too many households continue to deal with food insecurity, and in many cases these struggles are a direct result of the economic toll caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Governor Hochul said.

SNAP households located outside of New York City should receive these additional benefits between June 10 and June 17, while those located in the five borough region of New York City should receive them between June 17 and June 17. on June 30.

Payments will be sent directly to existing electronic benefit transfer accounts and can be accessed with your EBT cards.

“Maximum food benefits have played a critical role in helping New Yorkers avoid food insecurity during the pandemic, and that continues today as our economy continues to recover,” said the Commissioner of the Office of Temporary Assistance and for the Disabled, Daniel Tietz. “These additional benefits are giving individuals and families across the state the resources they need to put healthy, nutritious food on the table each month as we collectively recover from the public health crisis.”
