“Nvidia” informs China of the delay in launching the H20 artificial intelligence chip

Nvidia has informed its customers in China that it will postpone the launch of a new artificial intelligence chip called the H20 designed to comply with US export rules until the first quarter of next year, Reuters reported.

The H20 is one of three China-focused chipsets the company has developed in order to comply with new US export restrictions.

This delay may complicate Nvidia’s efforts to maintain its Chinese market share against local competitors, such as Huawei.

The AI chip giant was expected as early as November 16 to launch the new products, chip industry newsletter SemiAnalias reported.

Nvidia postponed the launch of the H20 until the first quarter of next year, and informed customers of the possibility of launching the chip in February or March. The company told customers that the H20 has been delayed due to problems server manufacturers are having with integrating the chip.

Nvidia plans to launch two more chipsets – L20 and L2 – in order to comply with new US export rules, alongside the H20. The L20 is not facing delays and is supposed to be launched according to its original schedule, while there is no information regarding the launch of the L2.

“Nvidia” is betting on chips in order to help it maintain its share in the Chinese market after it was prevented from shipping products, including the advanced artificial intelligence chips A800 and H800, under Washington’s strict export rules.
