Nurse adopts 8-month-old girl who spent 5 of them in the hospital without visits

A baby was born prematurely and needed rehabilitation. Despite her condition, her biological parents did not visit her. But his life changed forever in the hospital.

Little Gisele and a woman named Liz Smith were destined to meet. When their paths crossed in 2017, they were both in need. Smith worked at a children’s hospital in Brighton, Massachusetts, and had always wanted to be a mother.

But he couldn’t make use of in vitro fertilization. Gisele, on the other hand, had been abandoned by her mother. Learn more about their story below.

When Smith asked a nurse about the girl for the first time, she discovered that no one had visited her for five months.

The baby, who was 8 months old at the time, had suffered from neonatal withdrawal due to her biological mother’s addictions. Later, the girl who had survived her condition was about to be placed in a foster home.

Liz Smith, who is a nurse, said she knew right away that she wanted to be the little girl’s foster mother. The woman had always imagined that she would form her own family, but it had not happened.

In the midst of her struggles, she still wanted to be a mom. The nurse said it was the kind of desire that never stopped. I was trying to keep busy, but said that this desire “never went away.”

Smith had a lot of love to give and was known as “the best aunt in the world” by her nieces and nephews. Liz finally had the opportunity to become a mother thanks to a chance encounter with Gisele.

The nurse shared that something had caught her attention from the moment she and the baby met. The woman expressed that she had instantly felt the need to protect the girl.

Then solicitous to be the foster mother of the little girl and, while she waited to hear the verdict, she spent every day by Gisele’s crib. Smith knew that he needed to help the creature develop so that it could thrive.

Finally, a few weeks later, the nurse was allowed to take the baby home. Their friends and family were delighted and even organized a baby shower!

However, the girl’s biological parents were still linked and were allowed weekly visits. “I was committing everything I had to this girl who might not be in my life forever,” explained Smith.

After some time, the courts ruled that Gisele’s biological parents were unable to care for her. Because of this, their parental rights were removed. Smith applied to legally adopt the baby, but had sympathy for the birth parents.

“My gain was the loss of another. It is a difficult feeling to describe when you are experiencing this life changing moment that someone else is also living ”, said the nurse.

Smith focused on giving the girl the best life possible. In 2018, the woman’s dream came true when a judge approved the official adoption. Phil, the nurse’s brother, said: “It’s easy to see that they have complemented each other.”

Gisele has made great strides and has come a long way since her birth in 2016. Although she is still dependent on a supplemental feeding tube, the girl grows every day.
