Number of new corona cases above 6000 for the first time since July

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) recorded more than 6,000 new corona infections in 24 hours on Sunday, for the first time since July 23. Between Saturday and Sunday, the institute registered 6350 positive tests.

The increase comes a day after the number of new corona cases fell slightly. On Saturday, 5695 new infections were discovered after correction.

Last Sunday, the number of new positive tests was 3662, with a weekly average of 3363. The seven-day average this Sunday is 4994 confirmed corona infections.

In the past 24 hours, one death was reported as a result of the corona virus. On Saturday there were 25. However, it is not certain whether those people really died in those 24 hours or whether the death was registered later.

Hospitals

The total number of corona patients in Dutch hospitals is 748 on Sunday, 45 more than on Saturday. Of these, 185 patients are in intensive care, 6 more than Saturday.

There are 563 Covid patients in the nursing wards of hospitals. This is according to the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS) an increase of 39 from Saturday. In the past 24 hours, 7 patients were moved to a hospital in another region.

88 new patients were admitted to the nursing wards, compared to 101 on Saturday. The number of new admissions to the IC is 17, which is 2 more than the influx on Saturday.

The influx of covid patients rose last week for both the ICUs and the nursing wards. “We see that the influx has doubled in the past period. The occupation is now also increasing and we expect it to rise to about 800 covid patients in total in the IC and in the clinic,” says Ernst Kuipers, chairman of the National Network Acute Care (LNAZ).
