NU.nl did not achieve this: ‘Spanish government agrees to menstrual leave’ NOW

‘Children in youth care often move on’
On Wednesday, Het Vergeten Kind (The Forgotten Child) foundation published a study into how often children living in a foster family or an institution for youth care have to move. An important topic, because we know that moving often can be harmful to children who are in youth care. The AD, among others, wrote about this research.

Yet we have not published the research of the Forgotten Child on NU.nl. We are not sure enough whether the figures on transfers are correct for all children in youth care. In the Netherlands, almost 20,000 children live with a foster family or in an institution. The Forgotten Child had contact with 118 children for this study. They were largely approached via the Forgotten Child network.

It is unclear whether these 118 children are typical of all children in youth care. We therefore do not know for sure whether children who move within youth care move on average four times, as Het Vergeten Kind wrote. For this reason, this research was not published on NU.nl.

This does not alter the fact that the stories in the research are poignant and it is extra motivation for NU.nl to continue to follow this theme. read here in here stories we made earlier about youth care.
