Now it’s getting colder – the heat wave is in full swing in Norway

– The remnants of the hot air are now over Troms and Finnmark, but will disappear to the east. Nine of eleven counties have had temperatures that correspond to the definition of heat wave, but that heat will now disappear, says meteorologist on duty Martin Granerød at the Meteorological Institute to NTB.

On Tuesday, there were tropical nights at several weather stations around the country, including in Kirkenes in Troms and Finnmark and several places in Trøndelag. In Troms and Finnmark, a county record of 34.3 degrees was even measured at Banak in Porsanger municipality. But now you have to settle for more changing weather types in the north as well.

– There is nothing to indicate that we will get temperatures up to 30 degrees again immediately, the meteorologist says.

– This weekend it will be coldest in coastal areas in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark. They are probably the ones who get the very lowest temperatures with 12-13 plus degrees, especially on Friday and Saturday.

Continued danger of lightning in Møre og Romsdal

The Meteorological Institute’s lightning lines measured over 14,000 lightning strikes in large parts of the country last Sunday, and Møre og Romsdal in particular was exposed. This warning will continue to apply for the next few days.

– It is simply unstable changing weather over the weekend, and there may be thunder in the area. We have sent out danger warnings for lightning in Møre og Romsdal and Trøndelag already on Wednesday, but it seems that it will be so unstable on Thursday that this persists, Granerød says.

It is especially inland areas that are exposed, and people are advised to be aware of the weather if they are planning a mountain hike.

– The general encouragement when there is a danger of lightning and thunder, is to follow the weather. If you hear thunder or see lightning in the area you are in, do not swim, avoid being at the highest points, and get down into the terrain or away from water.

Opportunities for stay weather

However, little wind has been reported for the weekend, and there may be optimal conditions for boating activities along the coast.

Sogn og Fjordane can also be lucky to escape the worst of the gray weather from Rogaland and Hordaland with partial sun over the weekend. In Oslo, changing cloud cover has been reported, but hot afternoons with up to 25 degrees.

– There is always a danger that we have reached the top when we have had such a nice period, but at the same time it is a long time left of summer, and August is also a summer month, says the meteorologist.
