If you’re still looking for the right Christmas streaming show for the whole family, now there’s another great candidate for you: Disney animated film”Strange world‘ arriving December 23, 2022 Disney+ – so just before Christmas, so that the curious ones can look at it before the hustle and bustle of Christmas Eve presents. If you prefer to unwrap the presents earlier, you can of course relax over the Christmas holidays with tea and biscuits – or whenever you prefer, because “Strange World” is included as usual in the Disney Plus subscription at no extra cost.
“Strange World” – a classic Disney family adventure
The Disney animated film is currently still showing in numerous cinemas, after all, it only started on November 24, 2022. It doesn’t get any fresher than this. We also have a direct stream recommendation with a good 3.5 out of 5 stars in the FILMSTARTS review. With large images, a sometimes somewhat schematic generational story is told, speed and humor help to overcome small snags. Above all, the blue goo blob Splash should win the hearts of young and old.
Our conclusion: “A classic Disney family adventure with very modern messages, which, in addition to sheer visual brilliance, could have used a little more narrative depth.”
In the cinema, however, so far not many moviegoers have decided to visit “Strange World”. Worldwide, the visually stunning animated show has grossed just over US$53 million to date (as of Dec. 12), with a production budget of $180 million, a flop for Disney.
If you have a Disney Plus subscription and haven’t seen the film in theaters, but are also interested in sci-fi adventures for the whole family, according to our critique, at the latest in streaming, you should just have a look – or better yet, see the film at the cinema now, because the visual impact is one of the film’s greatest strengths and is best expressed on the big screen.
A journey to a new world
And that’s exactly what Strange World is about: 25 years ago, Searcher Clade (voice of Jake Gyllenhaal) brought a mysterious electricity-producing plant to his remote home in Avalonia, and the place has thrived ever since. But then the plant threatens to rot and Avalonia is in danger. Researcher Clade and his family embark on an expedition to find the cause of the plant disease and also a cure. Her path takes her to the heart of the earth, to a wondrous world full of colorful creatures and adventures…
