there will be a lecture on art relations with the environment / Article / LSM.lv

Within the cycle of lectures and talks “Earth”, Riga International Short Film Festival “2Annas” together with the Institute of Environmental Solutions (NRA) organizes the final discussion of the cycle “Connect to Habitat”, during which the participants will explore whether and how getting to know different artists can change our relations with the environment. You will be able to watch the discussion festival “Facebook” page on Thursday, March 25, at 18.00, informed the creators of the festival. –

“With the ecological catastrophe on the horizon, humanity has to reinvent the language in which to think about its relationship with the environment.

Nature as a resource and man as its manager? Nature as a romantic truth to which the urban man should return? These and other points of view may have proved short-sighted and misleading. The participants of the conversation will evaluate the impact of different artists’ views on human relations with nature and explore whether new ideas can be found on how our perception of human-environmental scenarios could change in the future, ”the event application said.

Artist Linda Bolshakova, director and publicist Julius Nuhum Kulibali, sound artist and architect Maksims Šenteļevs and Ambassador of the European Climate Pact and Chairman of the Board of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF Latvia) Uģis Rotbergs will take part in the discussion. The conversation will be opened by Laima Graždanoviča, director of the 2Anna festival program, and will be chaired by curator Zane Zajančkauska, whose recent achievements include the public program for the first Riga International Biennale of Contemporary Art and the exhibition “You have received 1234 news items. Life before the Internet. The last generation “.

According to the organizers, “Earth” has been chosen as the focus theme of the Riga International Short Film Festival “2Anna” for 2021. It has been introduced since January by a series of lectures and talks that look at current issues related to our planet through the prism of cinema. The series of events was opened by film scientist Viktors Freibergs, looking at examples of novel film adaptations of the great fantasy adventurer Gilles Verne, while in the second conversation the audience watched her documentary “Leiputrija” (2004) together with director Laila Pakalniņš. Recordings of events can be viewed at the festival On Youtube.

The cooperation between the festival “2Anna” and the Institute of Environmental Solutions will continue in the summer, when the art, science and ecology exhibition “Field Research” will take place in Cēsis, organized by the NRA together with the Latvian Fund for Nature. Within the framework of the exhibition, artists, researchers and scientists from various disciplines will focus on issues related to human relations with the environment. It will also feature a short film program curated by Julien Nuhum Kulibali, which is expected to premiere during the 2Anna Festival.

NRAs are an international research and innovation organization that brings together experts and specialists in various fields to develop solutions for the sustainable management of natural resources using the latest technologies and knowledge.

Riga International Short Film Festival “2Annas”, organized by the film studio “Urga”, in 2021 will take place online from April 9 to 15. “2Annas” is the leading short film festival in Latvia and one of the most important events of its kind in the Baltics, which has been promoting the short film genre for 25 years.
