Also called multi-faceted disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a disease that affects all organs in turn. Unfortunately, more than half of COPD patients do not even know they are ill, given that its early symptoms can be easily confused with the effects of excessive smoking or aging (coughing, suffocation, fatigue). ). Specialists draw particular attention to the harmful effects of smoking, especially in the current pandemic context, studies showing that smokers have a higher risk of developing severe forms of infection with the new coronavirus. Over 10% of people over the age of 40 have a moderate form of COPD, says Prof. Dr. Ruxandra Ulmeanu, primary care pulmonologist.

The “We Take Care of Your Lung Healthinformation campaign will run exclusively online, due to the current pandemic context generated by COVID-19. Thus, until the end of this month, video messages will be made to raise awareness of the impact of respiratory diseases on quality of life, messages that will be broadcast on the website and Facebook page of the Romanian Society of Pneumology.
