Nothing Phone (2) Review: Design, Features, and Specifications

A year has passed without a single day since the introduction of the first generation Nothing smartphone, the successor has been eagerly awaited for the past few months. The fans of the brand finally got their chance, because the Phone (2) was presented just today. And what will the novelty attract?

Not much has changed in terms of design, at least at first glance. Compared to the original generation, the new product is slightly more rounded, which some may like, others the opposite. We appreciated the design of the first generation, the novelty did not disappoint us in this regard. The aluminum frame that connects the front and back glass parts has been preserved. Underneath the back one, again, the effective LEDs are hidden, the light of which can be adjusted in various ways thanks to the Glyph interface. Nothing has newly increased the number of individual LED strips from the original 5 to the current 11. The number of zones that can be controlled independently of each other has also increased, resulting in richer options for personalizing light effects.

There are 11 new LED strips, divided into 33 personalized segments

Thanks to the glass back, you can count on wireless charging again, albeit “only” with a power of 15 W. Last year, Nothing slightly shocked us with wireless charging, it’s still not a standard in the middle class, this year we’re just glad that wireless charging has been preserved. The battery offers a capacity of 4,700 mAh, which means an increase of 200 mAh. Wired charging has been increased to 45 W, there is reverse wireless charging at a speed of 5 W. You should charge the battery from 0 to 100% in about 55 minutes.

Standard outdoor brightness is 1000 nits, peak 1600 nits. The resistance to water and dust is according to the IP54 certification, therefore slightly better between generations. It has improved under the hood though, with the Phone (2) powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 instead of the original Snapdragon 778G+. Yes, it is not this year’s absolute top, but the improvement is noticeable. There is 128/256/512GB of storage and 8/12GB of RAM.

As for the cameras, on the back we will find a set of two 50Mpx sensors, the main Sony IMX890 will offer optical image stabilization, the secondary will serve as an ultra-wide-angle sensor.
