Several types of solar eclipses will also occur this year. For 2023, there will be four eclipses, consisting of two lunar eclipses and two solar eclipses. However, only three eclipses can be witnessed in Indonesia.

The three eclipses are a penumbral lunar eclipse, a partial lunar eclipse, and a hybrid solar eclipse. While the annular solar eclipse reportedly cannot be witnessed in Indonesia.

LAPAN or the National Aeronautics and Space Institute has shared a list of astronomical phenomena that will occur in 2023. The following is news regarding the 2023 solar eclipse schedule that will occur in Indonesia:

  1. Hybrid Solar Eclipse
    The first eclipse that appears is a hybrid solar eclipse. BRIN researcher or National Research and Innovation Agency Andi Prince explained that a solar eclipse is an eclipse that has two different types of eclipses in one phenomenon.

The phenomenon begins with an annular solar eclipse which will turn into a total solar eclipse. And in a short time, the eclipse will again turn into an annular solar eclipse.

This hybrid solar eclipse will appear on April 20, 2023 or to coincide with the 20th of Ramadan. Unfortunately, this eclipse can only be witnessed in a few places, and cannot be witnessed in big cities.

In Indonesia, this hybrid solar eclipse can be seen on Maopora Island, Kisar Island, Damar Island, Antalisa or Fakfak Village, Watubela Island, Roswar, Randepandai, Wooi, Num Island, Biak Kota, and Serui.

Almost all major cities in Indonesia can witness a partial solar eclipse on the same date, namely April 20, 2023. This partial solar eclipse can be witnessed at different times in each region.
