Not wind, but coal is the main source of energy in Germany

During a major televised debate yesterday, Christian Democratic CDU chancellor candidate Armin Laschet criticized the policy of his party colleague, current Chancellor Angela Merkel, to stop nuclear power before leaving the highly polluting lignite industry. The candidate of the German Greens, Annalena Baerbock, wants to bring forward the planned coal exit of 2038.

The Social Democratic candidate Olaf Scholz of the SPD is calling for the new government to quickly create conditions that will enable the industry to carry out a climate transformation. Scholz thus opts for a “moderate middle ground”, and the German TV audience liked that, because Scholz won the debate with a lead.
