Not only actors are the stars of the screen: these cars conquered a place in our collective memory | drive

We not only welcome good actors to our hearts, sometimes their vehicle also attracts attention. This is how Rik Verheye’s grass-green Porsche is in ‘uncles‘ now a tourist attraction in Knokke. People are even queuing up to take a selfie with the fluorescent car, which is now for sale. But it is far from the first time that a TV vehicle has stolen the show. ‘Hello All’ made an overview.

The green Porsche of ‘Uncles’

The (grass) green Porsche Cayenne is on display in the Porsche Center in Knokke, causing a rush of fans of the comic Play4 series ‘Nonkels’. It is the real car from the series and the personalized license plate Persyn (the last name of Rik Verheye’s character) is still attached to it. Anyone who pays 95,000 euros can call themselves the new owner of the car of Kunstgrassen Willy.

Everyone still remembers Marcske and his Fiat 500, which he fondly called “my Bolleke” in ‘FC De Kampioenen’. “The car is from the year I was born and I really liked that cart,” says actor Herman ‘Marcske’ Verbruggen. “After the series, Bolleke was sometimes used for an exhibition. But when it was languishing outside at a certain moment, I kept the car at home in Borgerhout for ten years. Unfortunately I don’t have room for it anymore. Fortunately, Bolleke was given a place of honor in the reception hall of the VRT, where he will hopefully be groomed for a long time to come.”

The sailing car of Captain Zeppos (Senne Rouffaer) was the eye-catcher of the youth series from the 1960s. When the amphibious vehicle was launched during the shooting in the Ghent port area, thousands of people watched. Despite its popularity on television, the Amphicar’s sales flopped. Only 4,000 copies were made. After all, without solid ground under the wheels, the vehicle was virtually uncontrollable and made water at the slightest wave.

Dwarf actor Chris Willemsen who tore over the Flemish roads on a pocket bike in Jan Eelen’s viewing figure gun ‘De Ronde’ caused a lot of hilarity in 2011. “Chris was quite scared during the shooting,” recalls Jan Eelen. “Very understandable, because there were real races with that brommerke which quickly reached 90 kilometers per hour. Besides, he was a little too big for Chris. When we shot those scenes, someone had to jump out of the moving recording truck to make sure Chris didn’t fall over when he came to a stop.”

From the first movie in 1986 to the end of the TV series in 1998, the makers of ‘Flodder’ used a total of four pink Chevrolet Caprice convertibles. The battered car of Johnny Flodder grew into a real cult object. Two copies have since been reduced to scrap, unfortunately. The other two are in the possession of Dutch collectors.

A smart detective with a pretty blond assistant, a stupid jack of all trades, a genius inventor and a red Mini convertible with white bulbs. Those were the ingredients of ‘Merlina’, one of the most popular youth series ever made by public broadcasting, with two million viewers.

Another car that is etched in the collective memory is the orange Opel Kadett of cannabis grower Frank Welvaert (Wim Willaert) in ‘Eigen Kweek’, better known as ‘the otto† After the third and final series, the 1976 rally car was sold at an auction to a collector from Limburg. ‘Den otto’ raised 22,500 euros. Given the popularity of the vehicle, the owner hoped that it would be a lot more expensive under the auction hammer. Last year, the sjeeskar again in West Flanders, but the new owner soon blew up the engine.
