How does the Parcoursup procedure go to enter PASS?
This year, the main admission phase on Parcoursup runs from May 27 to July 16, 2021. After entering your wishes on the portal a few weeks ago, the first responses have already started to arrive. If the positive feedback is slow to come for the moment, don’t panic, you will often be on the waiting list. And know that it is quite possible to catch up again during the first weeks of the procedure, depending on the answers of the other candidates.
Who can help you, who can you turn to if you have no PASS assignment?
If the refusals are still numerous and you feel your chances are dwindling, you will have the possibility, from the end of May, to be accompanied within your establishment for the rest of the events. Alternatively, contact your Information and Orientation Center (CIO) to prepare for the complementary phase. What then gives you the opportunity to apply for new training.
Be careful, however, you will not be able to apply for an establishment that has already refused you in the complementary phase. In addition, you can only choose courses where there are still places. It is therefore important early in the procedure to think about a plan B and therefore to apply, in parallel with the PASS, to other paths that can be integrated in the event of failure. Another solution is to integrate a school outside Parcoursup. The last escape route is to ask the Commission for Access to Higher Education (CAES) from the beginning of July to find new guidance solutions.
Applying for PASS again, what are your chances?
If despite everything, the PASS remains your priority objective, know that you will be able to re-apply from January next year. Be careful, however, on Parcoursup, you are oriented according to your future sheet and your academic record – that is, your 1st and 12th grade grades. Now that you have left high school, these elements will not change …
However, you will still have the opportunity to strengthen your file through experiences in the medical sector. When applying a second time, you can therefore promote your application by presenting the results obtained in additional training, highlighting a professional experience or any activity illustrating your motivation for medical studies.
What studies should be undertaken to prepare for a new PASS application?
Therefore, several solutions exist. For example, some universities have courses in one year to consolidate their scientific knowledge and then try their luck again on Parcoursup. This will be the Preparatory Year for Health Studies (APES) at the Sorbonne Paris-Nord University, or the Scientific Upgrade at the University of Angers.
Alongside these relatively generalist courses, there are also much more specific courses such aspreparatory year for health studies (APESO) offered by higher education institutions such as Médisup Sciences.
Set up in Paris but also in other establishments in large cities such as Bordeaux, Lille or Lyon, this is a preparatory year that students will follow full-time as do economic prep students or engineer prep. From September to June, they will be able to work on the PASS program of their favorite university as if they were there, but with 50% more hours than in college, two mock exam sessions per semester without forgetting colles and mock exams regular. A real preliminary training that will then be possible to mention on Parcoursup, in order to increase the chances of being admitted to the PASS. Grades obtained, subjects studied, all of these elements can be mentioned in the Parcoursup file. Having taken courses in anatomy, biophysics or biochemistry will then be important points likely to tip the scales in the right direction.
The year APES0 also allows to present the first aid first aid PSC1 training and to follow a 35-hour internship in a medical environment. So many elements to be mentioned in the motivated training project which will once again demonstrate the work force, perseverance and motivation of the candidate.
It remains that entering PASS will not be acquired in advance, even after this kind of preparation. The knowledge acquired in this type of program will, however, also make it possible to apply in other fields, with here again, a much greater chance of success. Among the other possible openings: the Health Access License in Health Sciences, Life Sciences or Earth Sciences, training in nursing and numerous paramedical courses.
