Norwegian politics, Bahareh Letnes | Bahareh Letnes elected on the party list: -She made a courageous choice

Østfold’s Venstre list for county council elections was recently released. The name of Bahareh Letnes (32) is listed in 24th place.

Letnes moved to Halden in 2019 and is known by Halden residents as the owner of the Grand Bar along with her partner Per Sandberg, who also has a long political career behind her.

Letnes tells Nettavisen that she has long been active in local politics in Halden and that the decision to run on the Liberal list came after receiving a request from someone on the local team.

– What caused the elections to fall on this particular party?

– I have considered various parties, but my liberal values were absolutely decisive in choosing a party. Then the left became a natural choice.

Sandberg: – A courageous choice

Former fisheries minister and current partner Per Sandberg (62) is one of the most high-profile politicians of all time in the Progress Party.

Comment on his girlfriend’s choice as follows:

– I think Bahareh made a bold choice, at least he chose a liberal line, although I have my views on the clear or unclear line of the liberals here, Sandberg tells Nettavisen.

The couple regularly discuss politics with each other.

– Will there be a lot of political speeches around the table at home?

– Yes of course. We have long and good political discussions together. Much happens in foreign policy, Letnes admits.

These are the central issues

Letnes is in no doubt what problems she will work to gain ground now that she has been selected for the list.

– I want to work to ensure that small and large companies have the best possible living conditions. Furthermore, I want to reduce the public sector and focus on the freedom of choice of the individual.

Earlier this year, the couple may reveal that they were about to start a new bar project after the success of Halden’s Grand Bar. This time, however, they would have to settle in another city of Østfold, the idyllic Fredrikstad.

But the new bar was still empty this summer when Nettavisen visited. The restructuring project, which cost Sandberg several million crowns, was delayed due to the war in Ukraine and a lack of workers in the sector, Sandberg said in July.
