Norwegian holidays – Foreign tourists – No thanks

Just over one in ten (13 per cent) believe that Norway should be opened up to more foreign tourists this summer. As many as 73 percent say yes.

It shows recent figures from the Norwegian Corona Monitor, from Opinion.

– Even though both Norwegians and large parts of the world are vaccinated, there are actually fewer people who want to open the border to tourists this year than at the same time last year, says senior adviser Nora Clausen in Opinion.

In June last year, 15 percent answered yes, 75 percent no, while the rest answered do not know.

As many as 4,500 Norwegians have been asked if they think it should be opened up for more foreign tourists to be able to visit Norway.

Staying in Norway

Opinion has also asked Norwegians about the holiday plans for the summer of 2020.

At the moment, 83 percent of the population say that they assume that the summer holidays will only be in Norway this year. Only 6 percent say no to this. The rest “do not know” or answer “not relevant”.

The proportion who only expect a Norwegian holiday has been fairly stable for several months, and is only 3 percentage points below the levels in June last year.

Agree in the tempo

Nearly six out of ten (57 per cent) answer in the survey that the opening of society is going at the right pace. 26 percent say it goes too fast and 17 percent too slow.

– Most people still believe that the reopening of society is going at the right pace. The proportion who think it is going too slowly is at the same level as in May, while the proportion who think it is going too fast has increased slightly, says Clausen.
