V Norway will be banned from drinking alcohol in restaurants, bars and hotels during the holidays. The government has announced that the measure will take effect tomorrow, initially for a period of four weeks.
The aim is to reduce social gatherings
as part of the fight against the proliferation of the new version of COVID-19 Omicron. “Alcohol will not be allowed in restaurants, bars or hotels,” Prime Minister Jonas Gar Store told a news conference.
In addition, there will be stricter rules for holding public events, as well as for cultural life, entertainment and more. “The measures are targeted at situations where there is a high risk of transmitting the virus and many people can become infected in a short time,” added Health Minister Ingwild Hercol.
The reason for the tightening of measures
is associated with great concern about the proliferation of the Omicron variant. According to the latest data from the Norwegian Health Institute, 1,176 cases of infection with the new variant have been detected in the Scandinavian country so far.
“Those affected by the measures will once again receive financial support from the government,” Finance Minister Trygwe Schlagsvold Vedum said.
