Hail and thunderstorms that were accompanied by strong gusts of wind caused flooding in the northeast of the country on Saturday. In addition, reports were received at various locations of mostly fallen trees, safety regions report in conversation with NU.nl.
As a precaution, KNMI had issued code orange for the province of Groningen, while Drenthe and Overijssel had code yellow for a few hours. Residents were warned of whirlwinds, thunderstorms and possible hail.
In Balloo, Drenthe, the weather would have uprooted various trees, a spokesman for the safety region said in conversation with NU.nl. Fallen trees would have blocked roads in various other locations, such as in Assen.
Another place where residents were inconvenienced by the bad weather is the Groningen Damdam. The Groningen Safety Region received several reports of flooding, and images of flooded streets were shared on social media.
Lampposts were also said to have broken and several houses were exposed to some degree of storm damage.
