North Sea Tourism Day deals with the consequences of corona | NDR.de – Nachrichten – Lower Saxony

Status: 05.02.2021 12:09 p.m.

Today, the North Sea Tourism Day focuses on the effects of the corona pandemic. Those in charge emphasize that the industry urgently needs help to make ends meet.

For some businesses it will be financially tight because the Easter business will probably be lost for the second time, said the spokesman for the Wilhelmshaven city association of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga), Olaf Stamsen, opposite NDR 1 Lower Saxony. “We are also losing our staff because they cannot earn any money for months and are now looking for other jobs.”

Joint marketing planned

But there is also a glimmer of hope: Last summer, 50 percent of the guests were at the North Sea for the first time, according to Stamsen. “We have to use that and advertise the local coast with all means.” That is why the region is working on joint marketing, a North Sea umbrella brand, which will be discussed on the virtual tourism day. It is planned to found an agency under which seven districts and three cities will work together.

Ambrosy appeals to politics

The chairman of the North Sea Tourism Association, Friesland District Administrator Sven Ambrosy, also made an urgent request to politicians. The Federal Ministry of Economics must deliver and immediately pay out the promised aid to hotels and businesses, Ambrosy demanded. In addition, perspectives are needed as to when operations can start again. This is the only way to book and hire the staff for the season.
