Non-compliance with sanitary measures: the authorities order the closure of a bar in Saint-Jérôme

The authorities ordered the immediate closure of a bar in Saint-Jérôme because the owners committed several “breaches of sanitary rules” put in place by the government.

Investigators from the Saint-Jérôme police also executed the order issued by the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (RACJ) on Tuesday and “sealed” the Mondo Bistro Lounge.

The bar located at 283 Saint-Georges in Saint-Jérôme will therefore remain closed “for an indefinite period”, said the municipal police in a press release.

The Mondo Bistro Lounge had to close in March because of the health decree concerning the COVID-19 pandemic.

But since its recent reopening, the place has been visited a few times by the police, as have other licensed establishments in the sector.

It seems that the sanitary measures at Mondo Bistro Lounge were just not taken seriously.

“The police noted that the Mondo Bistro Lounge made several breaches of health rules as well as non-compliance with social distancing. A file has been opened with the RACJ concerning this trade ”, informed the police authorities.

On Monday, five police officers testified before the RACJ to recount what they saw inside the bar during their visits.

The Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux then issued an order under section 89.1 of the Act respecting liquor permits, prohibiting the licensee and its representatives from admitting or tolerating any person presence on the premises.

The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for July 21.
