The British aristocracy expert Wendy Bosberry-Scott explains that women who marry into the royal family have a lower status than blue-blooded family members.
“Women of the royal family who marry like Kate and Meghan get their titles by marriage and are therefore of a lower rank than those born into their titles,” she explains People.
“Essentially, the hierarchy exists to ensure that the princesses born with royal blood, like Eugenie and Beatrice, are not pushed aside,” it says of the old rule.
