According to statistics, the number of uninsured drivers has increased in recent years. Mainly because there are also more controls.

Although the latest data dates back to 2019, it is still worrying. According to ANIA data, 2.6 million vehicles are in circulation without insurance in Italy. Compared to the latest data collection in 2014, when 3.9 million vehicles were uninsured, the situation has significantly improved nationwide, but 5.9 percent of all vehicles in Italy are still uninsured.

According to the latest ANIA data, Trentino-Alto Adige is the most exemplary of all regions: 2.3 percent of vehicles were not insured. There are about 15,000 cars.

The bad thing: Contrary to the rest of the country, the number of uninsured cars hasn’t decreased in recent years, but has increased.

This is confirmed by the municipal police officer and Major Christian Carli. He doesn’t have exact figures at the moment, but he knows from personal experience that more uninsured vehicles have been taken off the road in the past five to six years.

The municipal police of Bolzano, on the other hand, have more precise data. Deputy Commander David Barbacovi reports that the number of vehicles will most likely increase compared to last year: “Currently – and these figures are very recent – this year we have fined 240 people without car insurance. Last year there were 292 in total, so it is safe to assume that this year there will be more fines ”. Barbacovi also confirms that this is a trend.
